YVES SAINT LAURENT Vinyl Couture Mascara Review and Swatches

Hi everyone,
So I bought the newly relaunched YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara, back in early spring. It was launched last year as well (correct me if I am wrong) and then pulled back from the market due to safety/health concerns. The new formula got me interested and I've always loved this packaging, so decided to give this one a shot. Its a beautiful mascara, non irritating to the eye, holds on well to lashes throughout the day and lifts and curls as expected. However, there were some new unexpected issues that I never thought I would run into.

Every post sounds like we are getting in touch after a long time, purely because this summer is full of family time/vacations for me. I usually do not like to share personal photographs but that's what my devices are full off!! There are so many drafts I need to finish aka posting on the blog..but will do my best to share my thoughts of products that help you get the most value out of your purchases (or splurges, may I say that?).

So, I bought this mascara when I ran out of my Givenchy Noir Interdit Mascara, which is absolutely amazing btw, and hoped that it's going to be a good one. YSL Vinyl Couture Mascara in the shade 1 - I'm The Clash, is a blackest black shade which gives my lashes good volume, lift and curl. I would love to repurchase it but the issues I ran in to made me rethink my decision. Take a look at the swatches and you can see why this did not work for me.

The wand is perfect size for my lashes - its long so I can get it all over my lashes in one stroke and then I use the tip for lower lashes. I get a lot of coverage with one application but if I want a full 10x volume look, I go for a second coat. As you can see in the swatches below, my lashes look much longer, thicker and lifted. But they also look spidery and feel sticky. It clumps up badly if I do a second coat, which in my opinion, is essential!

Love the gorgeous packaging of this mascara and even the formula is great - it is not thin, nor thick, just right! It is non irritating, long lasting and did not flake at all on me. However, a slightest splash of water can break this formula apart. I hate the run down mascara look that I can get even if I faintly receive a drop of water on my lashes. Summer time means a lot of splashes of water, be it in the pool, rain showers or our backyard sprinkler - what is summer without water anyways!!

So the only problems I have are that it gives me sticky, spidery lashes and it washes off completely with just water. That is kinda nice, because I have had mascaras that are hard to remove and result in losing some lashes in the process! I am all about longer, fluttery, fuller lashes so this is definitely not something I enjoyed.

Have you tried this? Do share your thoughts with me.
