GRATiAE Exfoliating Body Scrub and Body Butter Review and Photos

Hi guys,
Today I am sharing two organic body care products from GRATiAE. They smell so amazing and they feel just right on skin. I have GRATiAE's Exfoliating Body Scrub and Body Butter in Passion Fruit and Lime flavor!! YUMM!! Its delicious!

I have always enjoyed organic and natural skin care products, for their effectiveness without loading my skin with harmful chemicals. So I am very excited about GRATiAE's new store opening in Calgary's downtown. Okay so let me share a little bit about GRATiAE, just in case, you are unaware:

ABOUT GRATiAE
GRATiAE is an organic skincare line designed to provide the most effective anti-ageing products. They continually invest in finding the optimal ways to combine the mineral-rich thermal water of the Sea of Galilee (named Gratiae by the Roman Emperor), with organic plant oils to create natural and organic products that deliver the best to our skin.

GRATiAE Exfoliating Body Scrub
When I used this the first time, I didn't know how much is enough for me, because it looks just like salt with a delicious smell. So I followed the instructions and applied this to damp skin. I just dipped damp fingers in the pot and whatever amount of scrub came, I massaged it all over my skin. While massaging, I felt the texture to be very coarse and I feared it would leave red marks on my skin, which thankfully it didn't. The salt granules, do not dissolve in the process of scrubbing which also means that less of the product is used.  I had to rinse it off within a few minutes of application because I could feel the acidity of salt to be cutting through my skin. So I rinsed immediately and Whoa!! My skin looked shiny, silky and very well exfoliated. It did leave an oily residue on my skin, but it doesn't last and provides just enough protection to prevent skin from loosing moisture immediately after drying. I followed up with GRATiAe Body Butter.

With continued usage, I got used to the texture of this body scrub and I absolutely love how it removes all the dead skin and dryness from my knees and elbows. Since winters are here, my elbows and knees were considerably dry and this has really helped me get rid of dead skin over those areas. It also works as a great hand and foot scrub!

Overall, I feel this is a great body scrub. It really did help me nourish my skin and get rid of dead skin from my elbows and knees. The texture is coarse, but once I got used to it, its not a problem anymore. The passion fruit and lime fragrance is very relaxing as well. I use it twice a week.

GRATiAE Body Butter
The packaging of Gratiae products are so luxurious. They look great on my vanity and the gold lid adds a touch of magnificence. What draws me more to it, is that they look like glass jars but they are plastic and are really good to keep in the bathroom, where there is a chance of falling on the floor.

Gratiae's body butter has a nice thick texture and a yummy fragrance, its truly my favorite this season. It keeps my skin feeling soft and hydrated  but I do feel the need to reapply after 4-5 hours. This works great in combination with GRATiAE's body scrub and absorbs much better after a shower.  The best thing is that both of these products are made with organic ingredients and do not contain harsh chemicals like parabens.

Overall, I like both of these products from GRATiAE. Each of these is for $59.99 which is too steep for me, so I am gonna keep an eye out for deals/sale from GRATiAE. In the mean time, you can go check out their website to find out more at www.gratiae.ca

Hope you enjoyed this post! Let me know your thoughts on organic skincare.

  5. Bought some stuff for my wife today, but I'm looking at the ingredients, and I think the claims about natural and organic are misleading. Compared to truly all natural stuff like Rocky Mountain Soap (a few doors down from this store in Calgary), this looks like conventional cosmetics with mostly natural and/or organic ingredients but that still uses some nasty stuff that you should really reconsider absorbing into your skin!

Here are some ingredients that are not great in the two products you mentioned. I also got the nail kit, and it doesn't get better there either. I have emailed the company for more info.

"Fragrance" - could be anything, not a good sign.
bht - Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT) is a toluene-based ingredient used as a preservative
"RETINYL ACETATE" - the FDA calls it a "Known human reproductive toxicant"

in the nail kit, cuticle oil, the last ingredient is "DMDM Hydantoin" which release formaldehyde!

I am getting my info from an excellent source of information on ingredients in food/cosmetics: ewg.org's skindeep database at: http://www.ewg.org/skindeep/

I thought my xmas shopping was done, and my wife gets dry hands so this would have been an awesome gift, but once she turns it over and reads the back, i am sure she will never use it.

Something may have valid natural claims or even use some really great organic ingredients, but it could still contain carcinogens and other dangerous chemicals.

I enjoyed the Gratiae shopping experience, but sadly the products aren't what I thought.

    Merry Christmas!

  6. i read the company's website,they claim:
"we make our products with out using the following un-wanted ingredients:
Artificial Colors or Fragrances, Dioxins, Petrochemicals, Mineral Oils, Animal derivatives, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Petrolatum, Hexane, Phthalates, Sodium Laureth Sulfate or Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Aluminum and Animal Derived Ingredients."

so... i don't know... some ingredients they list are clearly not good, but their motto is positive. You decide!
